Review: Aussie Hemp Seeds + Giveaway!

I'm finally giving away a bag of certified organic raw Australian hemp seeds from Hemp Foods Australia. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with hemp products since they are few and far between and "not classified for human consumption" in Australia, but I've had a few samples of the seeds and protein powder before, and these seeds, hands down, are the freshest darn things I've ever got my filthy hippie mitts on.

For those not yet in-the-know, edible hemp is not of the same variety as the drug cannabis seed. Full of omega-3 oil goodness, plenty of vitamin B, C, and E, magnesium, iron, friendly vegan proteins, and the anti-inflammatory properties that come with GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and with no risk of getting high (which may or may not be a plus depending on your personal proclivities) since it's from a different plant, you'll want to be nomming on these... but you can't in Australia! Government says

Did you know that it's easy as (vegan!) pie to find great (vegan!) bathroom and beauty products with just a little bit of resolve?

n00bs: You've just come to terms with the horrors of animal agriculture, and the situation can look pretty bleak. Without an established support network a person can feel rather lost and confused... But there's good news! It gets easier. One day you won't know what the fuss was about.

Long-term vegans will sometimes roll their eyes at flailing n00bs who "just can't find anything" because we forget that there's a pretty steep learning curve in the early days. It takes a bit of brain re-training to get in a happy, animal-free frame-of-mind.

Every day there are more and more vegan

Not on the animal-friendly wagon yet? Go vegan for the month of March! (It's never too late to start, even if you missed the competition entry!) It's easier than you think, I promise. And then try April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February... and next March and beyond! I'm celebrating my 6 year Veganniversary this March! Huzzah!

Asian soy intake: It's higher than you think, and includes mostly non-fermented foods: from the Vegan RD blog. Soy is not the enemy!

More good soy news from Jack Norris RD:

A study from the USA was released Feb 25 showing that consuming up to 1/2 serving of soyfoods per day did not increase breast cancer recurrence among women previously diagnosed with breast cancer, and was even associated with lower mortality among such women.

According to CNN, gluten-free = sexy!!

I'm MoFo inspired!

An actual blog update, oh no!

I've borrowed this survey from my friend Nicole, who is the wondrous wonderful beacon of inspiring wonderment glowing in the vegan firmament who originally inspired me to throw caution to the wind (and vegan pies into the faces of naysayers) and go veg in the 1st place! All the MoFo-ing ("Vegan Month of Food" blogging) going on in the blogosphere has also inspired me to forgo valuable sleep and answer the following questions! :)

1. Favourite non-dairy milk?
... Good grief, just one? Well. I love the heck outta my homemade raw nut milks. Almond & date milk is a classic. Macadamia milk is frothy & perfectly creamy, cashew milk is great in tea & in berry smoothies, & hazelnut milk is simply divine (but pricey!). Shop-bought? I usually go for Vitasoy rice milk or Bonsoy. Or a coconut if they look nice!

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook

New blog layout, new pages, new stuff!

info

If you come to my blog to read the posts, you'll have noticed I've changed the layout to make it a bit "fresher" to reflect the fresher way of eating I've been enjoying. There's also a new info page coming called Raw Food that I'll be updating with living food health information in the coming week. I'll also be adding more information (of both the "cooked" and "raw" variety) to ye olde Flours & Grains and Other Ingredients info pages that have never quite been finished, and certainly haven't been updated in some time!

Also, before you leave an epic comment on this blog, you might want to read the FAQ. I'm not a fan of irrelevancy. This blog is about gluten-free living and vegan living and all the things that are tied into that cruelty-free, health-oriented lifestyle. It's certainly not about you finding opportunities to sell your unrelated junk or narrow political views. If you want to discuss a
