Lunch at From Earth And Water

I've been eating out a little more frequently the last couple of weeks. We used to eat out quite a lot before we had kids... Those were the spendy vegan days! Anywho, since those relatively quiet, non-busy, carefree days have passed into lively, exciting familydom, the first raw food restaurants in Australia opened - among them fRom eArth and Water - and it's one of our favourite vegan places to eat out now. Pretty darn impressive! Our friend Angela took us out for lunch and I took a few photos of the fancy noms...

In the middle: a green smoothie and strawberry ginger smoothie.

Hit The Road, Jackfruit Green Smoothie - What I Ate Wednesday!

Caught a minor lurgy from Huz's rage-infected office drone colleagues and/or the rampaging childerbeasts at the park (why won't people quarantine their sick kids/let them rest at home a little? blah!), so haven't updated for a couple of MoFoing days because I've been busy behaving like a big cranky obnoxious frustrated toddler.

My sincere apologies to planet Earth and all its inhabitants. I'm not a good patient because I've become rather unfamiliar with illness even if it's a minor cold that only lasts a few days instead of the few weeks that I used to endure pregan: MAGIC POWERS! But even vegan superheroines aren't entirely impervious to Coronavirus.

So. What have I been eating? Or, rather: what have I remembered to photograph while I'm eating? That won't tax me too much, let's go with some Hipstergrams.

Foods
Left: cacao-carob banana/dates/nuts smoothie; moong dahl; let's get ready to peach crummmmble.
Right: Smoothie! Recipe below.

Review: Aussie Hemp Seeds + Giveaway!

I'm finally giving away a bag of certified organic raw Australian hemp seeds from Hemp Foods Australia. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with hemp products since they are few and far between and "not classified for human consumption" in Australia, but I've had a few samples of the seeds and protein powder before, and these seeds, hands down, are the freshest darn things I've ever got my filthy hippie mitts on.

For those not yet in-the-know, edible hemp is not of the same variety as the drug cannabis seed. Full of omega-3 oil goodness, plenty of vitamin B, C, and E, magnesium, iron, friendly vegan proteins, and the anti-inflammatory properties that come with GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and with no risk of getting high (which may or may not be a plus depending on your personal proclivities) since it's from a different plant, you'll want to be nomming on these... but you can't in Australia! Government says

Exploring Cookbooks + A Book Giveaway!

I've been trying out more recipes from my extensive book collection - new and old. My breakfasts were getting dull, so I've upped the variety there... and at every meal!

Apple Pie Pancakes

I usually go with Banana & Brazil nut pancakes from Ani's Raw Food Essentials, but without access to a dehydrator and a hankering for something different, I found these marvellous cake-pie hybrids from Sarah Kramer's La Dolce Vegan! and put sliced banana and date syrup on top. Epic nom. They were rather huge and filling. Next time I'd make tiny pikelet-sized cakes.

Lemon Cranberry Poppyseed Muffins

Another recipe from Sarah Kramer's La Dolce Vegan!. I'm more of a raw/flourless cake fan, but I made these for a friend who had a birthday last week. He doesn't like chocolate, but likes orange and poppyseed cake, so I went with something similar, yet different! Lemon and cranberry is a great combination of flavours. The recipe only called for

Review: 21 Day Raw Cleanse with Jinjee

This is a follow-up to my review of the 28 Day Transition to Raw Program with Jinjee.

The Garden Diet's 21 Days Raw Summer Cleanse is coming up in a couple of weeks, and it's Jinjee's most popular program of the year. Northern hemisphere folks are slimming down for summer, while those of us in the southern hemisphere are vitamin-loading as a preventative against the cold and flu season.

A raw cleanse will help you achieve weight-loss and improved health with a supportive and safe MD-approved program, and plenty of inspiration to help you succeed. With my 2nd baby due on Saturday, jumping into a full-on cleanse is not on the cards for me right now, but extra health and vitality could be just what you need... and just what I'll need very shortly as well! As soon as I adjust to caring for my new little friend, I'll be eating even more raw food and cleansing away for as

Sprouted Oat Porridge with Creamy Nut Milk & Date Syrup

If you like oats, you'll love sprouted oat groat porridge. Groats are whole raw oats available in health or bulk stores. Steel-cut and rolled oats are steamed during processing. I was first introduced to groats by Ani's Raw Food Kitchen a few years ago.

If you can't digest cooked oats too well, you might find this is a digestible option for you, like my gluten-intolerant grain-sensitive husband. If you're a toddler, I bet you'll love the heck outta this like Alice did and eat a full adult serving! If you can't find raw oat groats, I've used steel cut on a couple of occasions without any problems.

I've also included a basic nut milk recipe below the porridge, and a date syrup recipe. Date syrup is a great raw wholefood sweetener to use in place of more-processed agave nectar, rice syrup, or maple syrup. It even tastes fantastic in tea! And it's cheap. Definitely a winner.
